Zoff's ship, Zoff V, is one map of 32 by 32 tiles holding 164 locations, and the view screen only ever shows five tiles by five of it.

01 · The ship

Zoff V is one map of 164 locations

Every tile of the map as the view screen draws it, with each location where the character's icon would stand. Choose a location to see its exits, or a patrol to see the route a guard walks.

The tile map at $84CB drawn whole with the tiles, colours and characters the view screen uses, by the port test_map.js checks against draw_view_map ($6A50) in all 164 windows. The marks stand on the tile at the centre of each location's window, one right of and one below the map position in its record. People and objects are where a new game puts them ($CA0E, $CD98). The How it works page takes the view screen apart.

The ship's 30 patrol scripts are lists of locations with a time for each step. A guard on a script walks it to the end and back again; walking out, each step takes the time given times four seconds, and walking back the time as it stands, so every guard returns four times as fast as it went. Six guards walk chains of scripts instead, one after another.

Location $A3, the Enigma attack craft, has the map position $FF, $FF and no exits: it is the team's own ship, and only the transporter goes to it or leaves it.
